Routes and logistics

RAFA Rides 2023 will take place at an incredible new location – Kendrew Barracks, the grounds of former RAF Cottesmore in the heart of Leicestershire.

Covering distances from 25 to 100 miles and elevation ranges of 1,000 to 6,000ft, there’s an option to suit keen cyclists and novice riders alike.
Sign-up as an individual rider or as part of a team and join us on Saturday 17 June at what was once the home of the iconic Harrier GR9 and Joint Force Harrier.

Start/Finish: Kendrew Barracks, Cottesmore Rd, Cottesmore, Oakham LE15 7AE

To find the ride venue, please use Google Maps (lat/long 52.7370566, -0.6400596) or What3words ///specifies.speaker.shovels which will take you to where Thistleton Lane and Hooby Lane join. The entrance will be clearly marked with RAF Association flags.

Start times

These are allocated based on anticipated MPH of individual participants. Most riders will finish by approximately 15:00-16:00 with the last by 18:00. Please refer to specific distances for approximate start times.

A fun ride through Leicestershire’s picturesque countryside, a great choice for anyone who is starting out and doesn’t want to spend all day in the saddle!

A solid 50 miles of riding lies ahead if you chose this route. This route is ideal for any cyclists who want to challenge themselves.

Our ultimate challenge. With over 5,000 feet of climbing, this ride is not for the faint hearted but perfect for experienced cyclists who want to test themselves to the max.

  • Helmet (helmets must comply with the latest US Snell B90/B95 or European CE Standards)
  • Basic tools

  • Lights and high visibility clothing (on days where fog or rain is forecast or where light is likely to be reduced)
